You can’t get hyphy in Houston
By: Melissa | January 14th, 2008But you certainly can get crunk. After watching the video below of Mike Jones kicking it up a notch at the Dynamo Championship Rally in November, I’m starting to wonder if the real reason San Jose moved to Houston was solely because Jones offered his endorsement. And that song he did for the Dynamo is seriously the best out of the bunch (it pains me to write that because I’m a huge RJD2 fan).
Now, how can the new SanHo compete with that? I say, its time for our front office to look to our local talent to properly rep the Bay as well as bring Major League Soccer to the masses. While we certainly can counter Jones with our own hyphy rap movement, I think the Oakland Raiders already have that market cornered when Luniz stopped putting 5 on it and repped the team with their own anthem. I say the Quakes should instead look to a musical style that complements their culture and history. As mentioned before on this blog, the club is one of the most well known and longest lasting brands in US soccer, so its only fitting that the Quakes embrace turntablism, which as a musical style, was poineered by Bay Area Djs who are still the undisputed leaders in the movement. Since its looking more and more likely that our expansion team has a real shot at the playoffs straight out the gate, I hope the front office is gearing up for a rally or two and I think an Invisibl Skratch Piklz reunion is just the ticket to pump up the crowd.

With Ruiz going to LA, do you think there is ANY chance that Landon could come back to San Jose? We all thought Cannon was a pipedream….could Donavan be next? Is he happy now playing third fiddle in the Ruiz/Beckham sideshow?
#1 pick in the draft for Landon?

Ooooh - interesting observation. Landon certianly was NOT happy at the end of this last season. I have to admit, as much as that guy bugs me, I am warming up to the idea. Especially if he uses the opportunity to improve his playmaking skills? ability? no - INTEREST. Yeah, thats it.
