No new Quakes news

By: Melissa | November 25th, 2007

We didn’t get our Friday trade and/or new acquisition announcement. Bummer. Well, that didn’t stop the rumor mill from flying out of control. So far, I’ve read reports that Ramiro Corrales, Danny Califf, and Kamani Hill are possible new players. I’m gonna sit tight and be patient with The Frank & Co. I think there will be an official announcement soon.

I missed a new addition to youtube when it was posted in August. For those of us who can’t wait for the 2008 MLS season to begin, tbone420 posted an entire 2003 Galaxy/San Jose playoffs game (in 10 minute chunks). I believe this is the one where San Ho comes out from waaay behind in the second half and knocks the Gals out of the running. Old-school fans are welcome to correct me if I’m wrong here (EDIT: I just watched the entire game and I am wrong. If anyone recognizes which one it is, please let me know).

Keeping with the youtube theme, I also found this little gem from thefancyray:

(Ignore the fact that DeRo is in the ad. He’s not coming back y’all).

And finally, since I seem to be doing a bit of walking down memory lane this evening, I eyeballed some funny Quakes history on their wikipedia page:

[in 1995, Eric] Wynalda scored the first goal in MLS history. However, he and [then coach Laurie Calloway] were soon at each other’s throats. The tensions on the team eventually led to a locker room brawl between Wynalda and John Doyle. On top of that was an infamous incident in which Wynalda hired an aircraft towing a banner demanding the Clash fire Calloway.

The article from 2001 that I link to above, is especially awesome because it highlights what a bad state the 2000 Quakes were in at the time and that brand new coach Frank Yallop “will need help. And luck.”

And, yes, I wish I was a fly on the wall for that fight between Wynalda and Doyle.
