Petition to bring Joe Cannon back to San Jose

By: Melissa | January 6th, 2008

Personally, I’m a bit torn. I seriously doubt Preston Burpo would’ve wound up in San Jose if there was even a remote possibility Joe Cannon could return in ‘08. Well, who am I to know the inner workings of MLS trade deals? But TheCannon™ certainly has his fans and they want to see him move back north where he grew up, where he went to college (yet another Santa Clara University alum!), and where he started his MLS career. Yes, it all makes complete sense that the fans want the guy to come back to the brand spanking new expansion team he previously played for something like ten years ago. Okay, now the whole situation wreaks of some sort of bizarre fatalism. So I guess predetermination got tossed out the window which means everyone is just going to have to sign the petition to bring Joe back to SanHo. Go on. Resistance is futile.

Uh…Nope. Sorry. Nuh-uh. No way. You can’t have him. The end.

I wish this dream would come true…but I have to agree - Burpo wasn’t brought here to ride pine. I’m still hopeful that Brian Ching will come home, along with a few other former Quakes.

Any idea when the roster will take more shape? Any updates on Goodson’s contract?

I’m thinking the next big push is the draft and then trading the draft pick(s) for better players. Luckily the draft is in two weeks so the nervous finger biting period is short. I’m surprised there hasn’t been another “someone” to SanHo rumor this year yet (or did I miss it?). And NO to Santino! Bad! Bad! Terrible idea!

I don’t know whats up with Clarence. Was this supposed interest from Euro clubs around before he got left unprotected in the Expansion Draft? Sure, congrats for being called up to the Nats training camp, but I think we should worry he’ll leave the Quakes if he A) gets playing time against Sweden and B) does something fantastic and memorable during said playing time. Otherwise, Goodson should seriously consider signing a year lease instead of a month to month.

Melissa, don’t quote me, but I think the only reason Goodson was left unprotected was because he was out of contract (or close to it) and they expected him to bolt for Europe if the opportunity arose.
