Final score? naught naught

By: Melissa | February 24th, 2008

Thats what Goff reports. There appears to be no further information on today’s match against DC United other than his words:

0-0 final in the rain on a muddy pitch. San Jose hit the post late in the match.

Oh wait – there’s a report from bigsoccer user sikolec (thank god for internet cell phones I guess)

Game finished in a 0-0 draw. Injury time chance for San Jose in the final moments of the game but couldn’t finish. I believe it was a cross/free kick in and was headed by _____, that passed the DC goalie and kicked by _____ only to have hit the side post and bounce back to DC goalie. Should have been an easy goal for SJ for the win. Game seemed slow due to wet weather conditions on the field. However, it didn’t rain more then a few sprinkles during the game…

P.S. Sorry I don’t know the players names…The _____ spots are for players names

And I can’t wait to find out what names go in those blanks. That sounds like a fantastic offensive maneuver on our part.

Ok, I’m off to go watch the Oscars.

EDIT: Ok, I’m back from the Oscars. Cal Poly has the match report here but CAUTION, it says Matt Taylor played fullback. Err, I’m thinking that’s a mistake. I guess the names aren’t on the back of the jerseys yet? Also, according to the report, Taylor and Hernadez were the fill-in-the-blank names from above. Again, that doesn’t make sense (was the shot from a set piece?). Hmmm… I wonder if I’ll ever know.

And looking at the lineups for both halves, there’s a little bit of confusion regarding who played forward. The report says we played a 4-4-2 but the lineups listed would perhaps suggest something more like a 4-5-1? Anyways, the folks over at bigsoccer are debating it right now. I’m wondering if this is another mistake made by the Cal Poly match report writers. Oh well.

The only other interesting news is a little tidbit from bigsoccer user smpfi65 in response to a blasé comment hoping the team signs more goal scorers:

Trust me buddy tomorrow we will know about that…….. Ian just told me about that right after the game. But didn’t say who it might be.

Nice to get news straight from the Assistant Coach’s mouth.

Oh and the Oscars were seriously meh. I didn’t even bother to watch anything that was nominated. But Jon Stewart was hilarious. He did a much better job than the first time he hosted.
