Pile on those pre-season games, Ramiro Corrales wants to return to MLS
By: Melissa | January 9th, 2008Time to get as much practice in as possible before the the very first (away) game against LA. *Shudder* The announcement came today that the Quakes are joining The New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC, and The Charleston Battery to participate in the Carolina Challenge Cup March 15-22 in Charleston, South Carolina. I only hope this is the beginning of a pre-season friendly frenzy for our boys. Despite the general consensus that we lucked out player-wise in the Expansion Draft, these guys certainly haven’t played together (and are probably spending more time these days wondering where the nearest grocery store is over whether they’ll make the starting 11).
So I’m guessing the Carolina Cup matches will NOT be televised nationally? Because – hello — there certainly will be a number of Bay Area enthusiasts interested. Maybe Mr. Alioto can figure something out for us?
In other news… today’s Houston Chronicle has a short piece on Ramiro Corrales that basically clears up any rumors about his return to MLS. Corrales tells the Chronicle: “I’m married now, and my wife is not too happy there, I think it’s time to come back.” Cheers to Yoko Corrales! (No offense to Yoko Ono who is a talented performance artist and musician on her own – okay okay, my comment was just a tasteless joke and I’m sorry) But its still unknown whether he’ll return to his Bay Area roots because the Dynamo want him on their roster (hrrrmm, sorry Boswell, I think he’s the Cochrane replacement Kinnear is looking for). Looks like this situation is just going to boil down to expense: whether the transfer fee from SK Brann is too high and if the Dynamo can fit Corrales under their cap. Well, San Jose still has tons of cap room so all is not lost for us.
Oh and one last bit of news, not to steal Dave over at the NY Red Bulls blog’s thunder but congrats to former Quake Jeff Agoos who survived the recent front office firings and got himself promoted!

I believe the Battery has streamed video online in the past. No sound and almost overwhelmed by Toronto traffic but a stream should be available

Oh hey bluemeanies, good to see you posting again.
Yeah, if we don’t somehow get a tv feed, I’m hoping a stream will appear like those Open Cup streams did last season. There is just no way some of us can miss these first few Quakes version 3.0 games.

Uh yeah, about those doe eyes… I can’t help but slip into cheesy teenage girl mode from time to time. Part of the reason why I watch the sport to be perfectly honest. Also part of the reason why I loved reading Bob’s posts on the main page. He really was completely unashamed to post oddball stuff involving women that maybe had like 20% soccer content.

If that sh*t is true, you just made my month (sorry Laurie).
…and the month of almost every SanHo pundit on bigsoccer
I bet the supporters groups would organize a parade if they could just hurry up and get themselves organized.
