Lucas checks in from Portland

So first we had the LOLcats, about a week ago I posted a LOLrabbit (and just wait til I bust out with the LOLsloth), and now I give you a LOLfault. Yup, today I found a geology blog thats filled with photos of California’s major fault lines meaning now I’ll have many more pictures to post throughout the season. Tres fitting and big up to science!
Sunderland The Offside blogger and Timbers fan Lucas attended Friday’s Quakes/Timbers game in Portland and filed a special report for this blog. He says the game wasn’t terribly exciting but the most memorable moments were two events events involving our keepers:
Scene: Burpo is doing drills in front of the TA stand and somewhere a boombox is playing rocking tunes that have me flashing back to my high school mullet years. I yell, “Hey Burpo! You like G ‘n R?” and he turns around and gives me the schmucky thumbs up, which I fortuitously caught on digital awesomeness
The other newsworthy keeper moment was when Joe Cannon kicked the ball into the TA after the final whistle. I didn’t see it happen, but according to reports it was either a harmless larf or he was trying to commit mass murder with a soccer ball. Whichever the case, he was met with a shower of rage and spittle and venom and…oh it was just hilarious in an awkward kind of way.
All in all it was a fun night: the Timbers looked OK after the shaky start and two Quakes goals; the flasks were flowing and keeping the bitter wet cold at bay; it was fun to give sh*t to Burpo again; and great to see our new Japanese striker Takayuki Suzuki show what he’s capable of. Also Joe Cannon making new friends, ha ha!
And I think that wraps it up for The Offside’s hard hitting pre-season coverage on the expansion team… just in time for Thursday’s game. I won’t be in LA for it but I will be watching it with these guys at this bar. So if you are in the neighborhood, you should stop by.
