Round Up the Posse
By: Melissa | December 15th, 2007I don’t have any news or updates but I’ve been spending a bit of time trying to figure out the deal with our supporter groups – mainly the 1906/Ultras (sorry Casbah). So the 1906′ers started as the Victory supporters group then merged together with the Ultras who went all dormant and mad scientist-y after the Quakes left for Houston (ok, I made the mad scientist part up). Now they’ve got a website, a message board, and recently spent a bunch of time discussing scarf designs (well, it IS cold outside). Oh and their spot is section 101 at the Shaw and presumably at the Coliseum too. Soccer Silicon Valley posted a blurb from the Quakes FO that calls the 1906/Ultras R-rated, versus the family friendly Casbah. I’m crossing my fingers when individual tickets go on sale, I can get a spot in section 101 because I have a potty mouth.
After doing a bit more poking around, I discovered that our remaining USL team (USL-2, the SF Seals) are making a little bit of an effort to round up supporters as well as recruit more on the SF side of the Yay in the form of The San Francisco Seals Soccer Meetup Group. I just joined. Feel pretty good about it. Looks like their next event is watching the ManU game at the Mad Dog & The Fog tomorrow at some ungodly hour early in the morning. I’m going to try to make it because I am completely insane.
Speaking of insane, my friend the Fulham fan, text messaged me from the bar this morning to inform me Carlos Bocanegra mysteriously got reinstated as captain after being benched for a jillion games. Apparently she was so shocked, she knocked over her boyfriend’s drink. It seems Carlosgate is now officially over.
Alright, I’m off to go pick up the wine for X-mas dinner at my friend’s awesome winery that used to be a submarine factory but want to give a quick plug for the changes over at MLS Underground. The new management wants to turn it into a spot for MLS supporter groups to write about their groups, recruit new members, log soccer related regional information, and probably tons more cool stuff as new ideas formulate. He’s looking for volunteers to help out and get the site off the ground so go check out the Call to Arms and if it sounds appealing, get involved!
