San Jose is way cool
By: Melissa | December 31st, 2007Happy New Years Eve, y’all! 2008 is going to be a great year for soccer fans in the Yay for sure. And to gear up for it, the bigsoccer regulars are posting up a storm in the SanHo section. If you’ve got a few minutes to spare and you’re thinking you’ll wind up in the South Bay at some point next year, go check out the Why San José is cool! thread to learn all about the city’s awesomeness. I grew up there so my contribution to its coolness is: right after the ‘89 earthquake, myself and my dorky friends spent our free time exploring the roofs of many of the damaged downtown buildings. We found some pretty cool stuff up there and I really have to say that my experiences finding fun in the too young to drink - pre-dot com boom - suburban sprawl – living in San Francisco’s shadow, basin city really influenced my love of spontaneous, low-key entertainment.
After learning about the greatness of SanHo, be sure to bookmark the Getting to the game on game day thread which started out as a conversation about public transportation options to The Shaw but is quickly turning into a chat about where fans should get our drink on before the games. Apparently, Santa Clara University is anti-tailgate so its currently up in the air on whether that option is a go. Stay tuned while the supporters groups figure it all out. Otherwise, there are some local (i.e. walkable from The Shaw) dive bar options available.
Ok guys, I’m off to have some of that spontaneous New Years Eve fun. I hope everyone else has a great time tonight! See you in 2008!
