The Scooby Gang

By: Melissa | November 30th, 2007

I think I should stop calling Quakes management The Frank & Co and instead refer to them as The Scooby Gang from now on. It may just be my general sense of whimsical romanticism but I imagine those guys hanging out together, reminiscing about the good ol’ days of just a few years ago, then suddenly having a light bulb moment and announcing: “it’d be super awesome fun if we all ran a MLS team don’t you think?” But instead of solving crimes in scary haunted houses, our boys are putting together a professional soccer team where one of the main criteria is that everyone gets along with everyone else.

(And I do expect my little analogy to switch into overdrive when Ruud Dude, his sidekick CoJones, and the rest of the f*cking whores - thanks Laurie & Diane - roll into town next year.)

So I wonder if Burpo is sticking around. I don’t have much hard proof beyond a few internet rants claiming he’s a bit of an ass and that I can see him looking for the first opportunity to get out from under Guzan’s shadow. Again my predictions have been completely off so far, but I’m leaning towards the idea that Burpo got himself traded so he can be trade fodder for our Scooby Gang in the coming months.

I guess the rest of our future team is packing and checking apartment rentals right now (psssst guys – craigslist is still the best place to look around these parts) except Kei Kamara who joined the Generation Adidas tour of Spain playing matches against various Spanish reserve teams. Kamara played the full 90 minutes in both games against Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid and apparently had loads of scoring opportunities in both. Time will tell if perhaps The Frank’s found yet another MLS diamond in the rough.

On The Victory front, USL Executive Vice President and COO Tim Holt says our San Francisco team may return in 2009.

“Although disappointed the Victory will not be a part of our 2008 competition, we continue to make progress towards bringing USL-1 soccer back to San Francisco with a new ownership group conceivably to be introduced prior to the commencement of the 2008 season,” Holt added. “However as a reflection of our confidence in and respect for the long-term health of the league, the importance of providing adequate preparation time to ensure the success of any new ownership group was prioritized above all else.”

So we sit next season out while the new owners get their sh*t together meaning we don’t repeat the fiasco that was the end of this past season. Check. I’m assuming that the whole fan ownership idea is now completely dead?

And one last bit of news, this week the Quakes made zero picks from the waiver draft. I don’t think this means we should rule out any of the players who do get released. I can easily see our Gang inviting a waived player or two to camp next year on a trial basis.

Aight, have a great weekend everyone!

Oh no…that is a particularly good analogy. But it would be better if you didn’t use it, because I’d like to stay a hardcore Galaxy fan (as well as a super Wizards fan) and its going to be awfully hard to resist becoming a fan of a team with the same nickname as Buffy and her posse.
