Congrats Adam Smarte

While technically he’s not the first UC Santa Cruz alum to play for the Quakes, I don’t think any ex-Slugs ever made it past the reserves squad. But now we all can boast a Santa Cruz grad was a first round draft pick in the supplemental draft. Hey, my former university was not exactly known for its sports programs so this is actually a pretty big deal (to me). Now I get the opportunity to yell out “THAT GUY WENT TO MY COLLEGE!” if he ever sees real playing time. Also, I think he was one of the players from the Tryout Tour who got invited to December’s Quakes Combine AND he’s a forward (we certainly can use more of those) AND he has a super cool last name. Ok, I love this guy already and I’m sure I’ll be looking to friend him on Facebook.
Here’s the complete list of who we picked up:
1.Adam Smarte, F, UC Santa Cruz
2.Tim Bohnenkamp, F, Creighton
3.Greg Curry, D, UC Santa Barbara
4.Tim Jepsen, D, Duke
Good luck guys! And I hope this is the start of your fruitful MLS careers! If not, then I hope you all attained degrees with marketable job skills.
