I wasn’t serious about the chicken of the sea thing

By: Melissa | March 24th, 2008

A friend of mine has a roommate who is currently trying to decide which law school to attend. He apparently got accepted to a few places but is dead set on NYU because after he spoke to a graduate at some event, she informed him she lived in Pacific Heights. He then rushed home and looked up the value of her house online and decided that NYU was the place for him because he would obviously make more money after he graduates than he would at any other school. In fact, when I was over at my friend’s house this past weekend, I overheard the roommate asking someone, “what was it about my application essay that NYU saw and Harvard didn’t?” Indeed. My guess is, the roommate will be moving to New York in a few months and many of us are of the opinion that the day he’s gone can’t come soon enough. But, ok, my point is this - his situation got me thinking about my own goals in life and I spent some time over the weekend pondering whatever personal milestones I’d like to accomplish in the near future but so far, I can’t think of anything past “don’t die.” So now I’m wondering, is the douchey roommate better off because he has clear and consistent, although extremely shallow, goals yet I have no clue what I want a year, six months, or even three months from now?

Feel free to comment on my little moral dilemma if you care. Moving on to the Earthquakes, today the Quakes announced a partnership with KFC called “Colonel’s Corner” where a limited number of vouchers for what looks like decent seats at the home games are available at KFC restaurants. Section 107 at Buck Shaw and Sections 231 and 232 at The Oakland Coliseum will be officially branded (attack of the KFC logo!) and those vouchers will set you back a paltry $15 for seats. No word on whether the seats come with your own serving of a failure pile in a sadness bowl but lets all keep our fingers crossed.

There are quite a few new articles online and many of them consist of previews and predictions for our little expansion team. I’d like to pull together a post this week that goes over them and maybe give a little summary of where everyone else thinks we’re at so stay tuned for that. Also, word on the street is, Guy Roland Kpene was just cut by DC United. Will we also be joining us in training camp? Also, I have a sinking feeling in my stomach that because Yuri Morales did not sub in at the end of the game against New York, he already left training camp. Especially after I discovered the Beach Soccer World Cup qualifiers are about to start. Did he maybe leave to go participate in that?

And for those of you chomping at the bit for a jersey, SSV reports that the Soccer Pro stores in San Jose, Dublin, Pleasant Hill, and Modesto have them in stock already.

Yeah, that’s been my plan for most of my life and its worked out pretty well so far. But I do wonder if I should get some direction or focus from time to time.

I was in a metal band for 4 years, did some light touring on the east coast, met alot of great people, had an amazing time.

Now - i am a business owner and a suit.

Life takes you places you never think it will go. Just hang on for the ride, and enjoy every moment - even the sucky ones.

On an upbeat note, I just purchased my new Quakes jersey at the Soccer Pro store in San Jose. FYI They only have short sleeve home jerseys in stock.

I actually think my little personal story is a funny one. I think its just my sense of humor though.

Congrats on getting a jersey! Did you personalize it? Cause whose number would you get? Is it too early in Quakes v3.0 to make that call?

No…just a blank jersey. I’ll wait to get a personalized jersey when we sign our first big DP (*crosses fingers for Shevchenko*) and we get sponsored (*crosses fingers for google*) :D

With our luck, it will be KFC *sigh*

I did like the yahoo logo on the old jerseys. I didn’t like the old jerseys (sacrilidge = I know) but the logo looked nice.

HAHA…If it’s KFC, I’m buying up all non-sponsored jerseys and selling them at twice the price. These new black ones are sick looking tho!

Joseph Campbell would say…follow your bliss. Live the best you can - one day at a time. I have always put happiness, contentment and inspiration ahead of the almighty dollar and I managed to make a decent living pursuing my love - music. Sure, there were tough times but I stuck to the script. This method won’t work for everyone as we all have different philosophies, desires and world views…but it did work for me. So it goes…

Wow - alot of smart people read The Offside. I bet if there was a study ala that one Comedy Central did on The Daily Show and Bill O’Reilly had to eat his words when he said only stoners watched…

Oh and I totally think Steve Nash should be San Jose’s first Designated Player. I bet that guy would put more butts in seats than Beckham could dream of. Also, basketball season has only a short overlap to MLS. My friend was saying he’s a Santa Clara grad too and wikipedia confirms that.
