Odds & Ends

By: Melissa | January 28th, 2008

I’d like to start out by taking a little step back to write about something not at all Quakes related before diving into mostly inconsequential SanHo news (I sense another slow news week if Our Gang doesn’t hurry up and grab someone new in the transfer window). This Brad Guzan situation is making me very very depressed. Its painfully obvious he’s leaving the Goats and as a “girl without a team” (who is not a fan of Texas as a State or a concept), I fell in love with the 2007 Chivas squad. I think Brad’s eventual move will officially signal the moment when Chivas cease to be my club. Nothing against Brad’s decision – in fact, I think its an amazing opportunity for him to up his game and secure his spot on the Nats for 2010 (I just hope he picks a team where he gets regular playing time). And I’ll always cheer for Special K, The Law, Beezy, Panchi-err Pancho, Jesse, and of course Ante “so hott he should be made illegal” (even if he does leave the Goats and moves back to Chicago because the Fire is the only other team he is allowed to play for). Ok, just writing about this is making me sad so I’m going to move on. I’ll be spending the next few weeks quietly dealing with my pain and, uh, transitioning.

Right… back to the Bay Area team. Camp starts Febuary 4th. Thats the news.

For those of us who do not have season tickets, we have to wait until MLS releases the full 2008 schedule before getting a crack at seats. The word is, the complete schedule comes out next week, and on that magic day, our Earthquakes FO will have individual tickets for sale (but no matter what, the Chicago tix go on sale this Friday). So I’m going to sit tight and wait until then before asking the sales reps about smaller five or ten games packages, or how seating preferences work, or what the arrangement is for the Coliseum vs TheShaw. At this point, I’m leaning more towards the opinion our FO just doesn’t have those answers yet.

I realized that I missed a great opportunity on Saturday to get to the bottom of jersey sales, i.e. when we can buy the new kits. Luckily someone smarter than me asked the right people that question at the Expo. The new jerseys are available to purchase around March 1st and sales are through a ticket representative or I suppose by contacting the Front Office directly.

And as for the latest round of signing rumors, the current list is: Andy Herron, Freddy Thompson, Willie Sims, Jose de Jesus Mendoza, and one more time for Eddie Lewis.

I think thats it for now. Just a quick shout out to any Bay Area Aussies who plan to go to the Mexico v Australia game in Oakland. My family is from Brisbane so I’ll be there to cheer on the Socceroos. I hope I’m not the only one.
