The End is Near!
By: Ian | October 23rd, 2008Saturday is the last game of the season for Earthquakes fans. Soon will begin the most dreaded time of the year: the offseason. Yes, soon you will wake up in the middle of the night with the shakes, crawl over to your tv and cue up the 2003 highlight dvd. As your significant other wakes up and tells you to turn it off, you’ll plead in a whiny voice, “Just one more highlight, please, I just gotta take the edge off”. Maybe it won’t be quite that bad, but we still have several months yawning before us with no Quakes.
So in a gesture of solidarity, I will make a solemn promise in the spirit of election year, to keep this blog going through the long, dark winter. When all is lost and no sign of the Quakes can be seen, I will be here to dredge up something to talk about. We will wrap up the season, look at all the off-season moves and spend endless amounts of time dreaming up ways to improved our beloved Quakes, or laughing at the circus down south. When none of that works, I will try to find some Quakes-related stories, even if I’m stretching. Whether it’s how old warriors like Danny Califf are faring in Europe, or following the relegation battle of our new partner, Tottenham, don’t touch that dial.
Now, we do have the small matter of our final game against Toronto. Nothing to play for, you say? Eat those words! We have everything to play for, because we can’t relent until the Galaxy is crushed under our boot, or at least one point below us, sitting at the bottom of the table. We need a win against Toronto on Saturday, and for the Galaxy to lose to Dallas at home. It shouldn’t be too unlikely a result, as Dallas need a result to get into the playoffs, while the Galaxy are out, with Beckham already thinking about what outfits he’s going to pack for Milan. Do the business boys! Finish ahead of the Galaxy, that’ll a nice stocking stuffer to last us through the coming months.Â

Beckham wasn’t much of a threat anyways. His career is going out the window anyways.

That was a great game. The Quakes were in dominant, mid-season from. It was great to see Corrales back, too.

I love how Shea Salinas kicked the flag then put the flag back. We were wondering if he was also gonna start picking up people’s trash and recycling.
