Dear Joe Vide

Accept my Facebook friend request! I know my silly attempt at internet friend collecting means very little, but its a fun diversion and you’re the only future SanHo player I’ve found on Facebook so far. Speaking of Joey, he was interviewed by the Gameday blog and spent a little bit of time talking about his move to California:

Never being out to California, it will definitely be an experience. I have heard great things about Coach Yallop from players that played under him to his past staff, so I am excited about the opportunity to play under him. Being part of the resurrection of a past team should be fun as well, the fan base will be there and while it may be a struggle as tends to be the case with expansion teams, I am looking forward to the opportunity to ply my trade out there. All in all I am looking to getting out there and getting things started, especially the warm weather, its going to help out my golf game tremendously!

Yeah, I can’t imagine one having a successful golf game in the freezing wind or snow. We Californians are so used to constant mild weather that real seasonal changes scare us (ok, I can’t speak for everyone but they scare me).

In other Quakes news, I actually found Quakes news. The Merc reports today season tickets are selling like hot cakes and Executive Vice President David Alioto may cap the sales at 8,000 to allow room for youth groups, corporations and casual fans. Also, the previous report that SanHo will host New York as the season opener may prove to be a false assumption. According to the Merc:

The Red Bulls and MLS wanted it to be the case, but the success of the [Santa Clara University] teams extended their seasons and pushed back the schedule for stadium alterations. Alioto said the team probably could have made the March 29 date, but it might have cost them a chance to show off all the bells, whistles, streamers, big-screen TV, new sound system, etc. “When we open, we want to put our best foot forward,” he said.

Expect an announcement next week that the home opener will be sometime in mid-April; the full schedule will be released in January.

You know what that means, right? The first San Jose match of 2008 will be against The Galaxy at the Home Depot Center. Yikes, thats going to be a bloodbath. We’re so screwed. Hey Garber, please be gentle and give us Toronto or Salt Lake before we have to face The Galaxy on their turf.

Have you really heard anything about Eddie Lewis coming back to MLS because this is the first I heard about it and it’s not really much.

I think they need to switch those names and send Benny on over to the states just for my benefit, not his own professional growth.

Girl… seeing Benny in a SJ uniform next year would be poetry. Sadly, I don’t think he’ll come back (despite telling Sacha in one of those podcasts he wished he was a part of a MLS draft).

Personally, Lewis back at SanHo is possible but not terriby exciting. And since he’s a midfielder (last time I checked he was a midfielder, has that changed?) I’m not really seeing The Scoobies put the old-timers in those positions since Doyle said in an interview they want the veterans up top scoring the goals. But I’m the worst at predicting what Our Gang is really up to so anything’s possible. Lewis left before Yallop showed up in 2000 so I don’t see any nostalgia from the coaching staff.
