Sercan Güvenışık Trials with San Jose

By: Chris | June 2nd, 2011

Sercan Güvenışık is a Turkish born German who arrived in San Jose on Monday to begin a week-long training session with the Quakes. He recently was playing with Preußen Münster in the German 4th Division. Sercan played with SC Paderborn 07 from 2008 – 2009 and scored 17 goals in 34 games. He’s bounced around the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th levels of the German Bundesliga since 2003. Head coach Frank Yallop has stated that the team is always on the look out for talent to add to the team. But do we really need a striker from the lower levels of the Bundesliga? If his abilities can translate well to MLS then sure, give him a shot. Sercan is in the States on his own dime and is looking to play in MLS anyways. So his motivations are well and good, let’s just hope he can bring something needed to San Jose.

This team continues to be a joke when it comes to acquiring talent from abroad. Do they expect this guy to be another Luke Rodgers? What are the odds?
