More Proof Positive That Edson Buddle Is God (RSL Post-Game)
By: Sean | June 18th, 2008As a player, I am all about creativity, vision, and other attacking attributes that Christopher Sullivan likes to repeat ad nauseum. I have never understood why someone would want to to make it their job to stop all of that. I angered hundreds of teammates throughout my “career” refusing to defend. And yet after tonight, it sorta looks like fun.
If there’s one thing this team can do, its score goals. Just kidding. But honestly, it really looked like the boys were almost having fun near the end of the match, telling Salt Lake “is that all you’ve got?” And it was, in fact, as the Quakes battled to “win” an extremely valuable point in Salt Lake. And don’t get confused, tonight’s match was a win. It was just a win that only gave us one point instead of three.
Perhaps its due to O’Brien’s growing influence, but the team seemed to have a bit more bite in them tonight. If pushed, they would push back. If fouled, they would foul back. Normally I would have a problem with this, but when you lack quality, you do what you have to do to get points. Call it “scrappy”, “gritty”, or whatever you’d like, its a very blue-collar approach, and if we can play like this for the rest of the season, we’re in good shape for the future. It looks like black and blue might be the right color choice for this team after all.

I did like the Quakes effort last night and the fact that they didn’t quit against long odds. They dodged some bullets and had a little luck on their side, but a good effort from some Quakes like Kelly Grey made up for the stupidity of Jason Hernandez…he’s got to play with some control in that situation and he might have lost some playing time to Grey with that bonehead 2nd foul.
If Cunliffe could just keep the ball low, we might have pulled off a miracle win.

“You make your own luck in this game.” – Andy Gray
I think I would prefer Corrales at center back and (Kelly) Gray at defensive midfield. That would force Ramiro to stay back on D, and gives Gray the opportunity to use his distribution skills and pick his spots going forward.
