Now Presenting…

By: Ian | June 7th, 2008

Greetings, this is co-blogger #2 for the Earthquakes on The Offside.  Together, me and Sean are going to sucker-punch this blogging world and lead this space to world domination…or something like that.  Anyway, a short intro is in order.  My name is Ian, I’m a member of the Casbah, and was born and raised in San Jose.  You can check out my more analytical side on American Soccer Reader, where I do pregame analysis, ratings, interviews, and the like.  You can check out my game preview here.

With that intro and promotion out of the way, tomorrow is shaping up to be mouth-watering in terms of the soccer on display.  In the morning, we have the European Championship kicking off, with the Czech Republic facing off against Switzerland, and Portugal using Turkey as target practice.  I’m going to be waking up early in the morning to watch it online.  Not the best option in terms of experience, but I’m not quite sure if I can drag myself to the pub that early.  It’s ok, I can always sing softly to myself at 8:30 in the morning to get into the mood.

Later on, of course, the Quakes take on Columbus.  Every week I seem to alternate between being optimistic about the Quakes’ chances and writing them off as The Clash part Deux.  This emotional rollercoaster has all a bit on edge I think, so here’s a simple drinking game for tomorrow’s match (and I’m sure it can be used throughout the season as well):

*1 beer for every time Corrales skies a shot (don’t want to get drunk too fast now)

*1 beer for every shooting opportunity which a Quake passes up in order to send the ball backwards

*1 shot for every mental mistake on defense (you’ll probably need it once you see the result)

*1 shot for every possible Quakes goal which rebounds off the post or crossbar

and finally….

*1 beer, 1 shot, and 1 drop of rat poison if Kirovski isn’t the Invisible Man and scores a goal (don’t worry, it won’t happen)

You just sealed your fate with the new new guy rat poison comment. Have fun at the hospital getting your stomach pumped. Kidding.

For those of us that actually WILL be at a pub watching this match, thank you for giving me something to do. I imagine I’ll have much more fun with this than I would doing a running blog.

Oh and Ian, you going to the Galaxy game next weekend? We should hang out. I think we’ll be watching some Euros at a bar then heading to the Coliseum parking lot to tailgate and play cornhole.
