Is everyone excited to see Sylar play Spock?

By: Melissa | January 20th, 2008

Because something is not logical in Quake-land. The date’s been set for the friendly against DC United in San Luis Obispo: February 19th. That’s less than a month away and Our Gang has yet to complete the roster. At this rate, the team will maybe get a week’s worth of practice together before taking on the two-times-in-a-row Supporters Shield winners. Awesome. Well, this game looks like a trainwreck in the making so you can guarantee I’m going to figure out a way to be in attendance.

John Doyle perhaps shares my sense of foreboding urgency when it comes to completing the roster. According to Charles Boehm at Mlsnet, “the club will be active in the international transfer market and may swing further trades within the league in the coming months.” So I guess that means we will definitely see some new overseas acquisitions before the 31st. Doyle also says they are aiming to add more attacking players (duh) and they have no desire to trade away any of the existing roster:

“We had a lot of teams ask us for the players that we drafted in the expansion draft, and we don’t want to trade those guys,” said Doyle. “We think we got great value and some excellent players out of that, [who] will contribute to our team over years.”

Thanks Doyle. In all seriousness, I’m really warming up to your picks so far.

In more Local Love news, thanks go out to everyone who made it to The Mad Dog last night to watch the USA v Sweden game. At some point in the evening, we were picking out all the former Quakes on the field which made me feel super warm and fuzzy (or perhaps that was the Stella). Thanks also go out to the folks who blindly followed me to the karaoke bar down the street to continue celebrating. Looking forward to tailgating at the games with you guys for sure! And I believe The Mad Dog will also be showing the upcoming Mexico friendly on February 6th. More details as they come.

And I forgot to mention earlier, while we were all going apeshizz over one rather anti-climactic SuperDraft, the old WUSA introduced the new WPS! I spent some time poking around on their new site and got kind of disappointed to see they don’t have a Bay Area team. But, according to notes from Goff, setting up a San Jose team (why always the South Bay?) is their next step. Hey - if I could throw out a suggestion ladies, could you please NOT call the future Bay Area team the CyberRays? Ugh, that was one horrible name.

Ok, I’m off to go nurse my hangover. Seems I forgot to add a Song of the Week on Friday so I’ll do it now. In honor of the new women’s league (and this one finally working together with MLS), I give you two of my favorite rappers who collaborated a few years back to create one cool-ass song.

EDIT: Ok, I just re-read this post and realize its a laced with a bit too much sarcasm and for that I do apologize
