Its Combine Time

Well, I got that evil, terrible flu thats been going around. If at all possible, quarantine yourself from life immediately to avoid this one. I’m going to assume our Quakes took the necessary precautions because its full speed ahead for this week’s Combine. The list of participants were never officially released but a little bit of local publicity revealed Newark native Robert Arteaga, and UCSC graduates Jeremy Abrams, Stefan Clemens, David Frank, and Adam Smarte. Hooray for UCSC! Thats my alumna. Go banana slugs!

In player rumor news, Ramiro Corrales is currently in talks for a return to MLS. His agent says his desire to return to the US is family oriented and Houston still owns his rights. Interest from San Jose so far has been “nothing more than initial discussions,” but since Corrales is a Salinas native, he may specifically want to return to the South Bay (I’m speculating here).

Last but not least, Soccer Silicon Valley, a grassroots organization that promotes soccer in the Bay, has formed a non-profit sister corporation called the SSV Community Foundation (SSVCF). The organization will work with the Quakes to coordinate charitable activities such as bringing underprivileged youth to games, setting up museum quality displays of Quakes memorabilia (perhaps including the two MLS cups?), and awarding scholarships to underprivileged youth selected to attend elite training programs. They are looking for more suggestions and donations, so if you have some ideas or want to give them some tax-deductible help, their site is SSVCF.org. If you want to get involved, they are still looking to fill some board positions and plan to have regular meetings soon.
