We aint mad at cha, Shea
By: Melissa | April 13th, 2008
I think by now, everyone who follows MLS has seen the epic fail from Shea Salinas when, late in the second half, he had a perfect opportunity to knock one in and tie the game for us. (What? You haven’t? Check the game highlights at MLSnet.com) Well, our Shea feels really really bad about it. In fact, he feels so bad about it, during a post-game interview, he looked right at the camera and apologized. I cannot seem to embed the video, but the moment is up at Center Line Soccer complete with all the nervous stammering one should expect from a 21 year old who just played the second game of his entire professional career. I’m not gonna lie. My maternal area is all sorts of out of control right now and apparently he’s even managed to thaw the cold, dead, bickering hearts over at Bigsoccer. A user named Aquari started a thread called “Message for Shea Salinas: Really, it’s Ok” and users are slowly adding words of encouragement to our young midfielder. So now, I kind of get the feeling this little incident is going to become a small trivia footnote in Quakes history.

Shea is going to do good things for the Quakes this season and in the future – I’m not too worried about it. He’ll redeem himself soon enough.
Melissa – Good to meet you on Saturday before the game w/ Sterling. See ya around sometime.

Landon has him beat for missed sitters. Watch the Galaxy highlights.

Two thoughts.
First, did you hear him say how loud the crowd was? He said it was louder than even in LA. Good job you guys!
Second, I wish Galaxy fans would have more of this kind of attitude toward their players. Granted, big money players should make big money plays more often than not, but they are only human. And the young ‘uns? They just can’t perform well enough for anyone.
(That attitude from LA fans isn’t usually found here, but in a lot of other forums I read.)

Well, I gotta say, we’ve got slightly inflated expectations for this kid right now because our offense is so weak. I think under different circumstances, he’d just be happily adjusting to MLS while *place experienced play-maker here* takes all the credit and does all the interviews. He seems to be doing alright in the spotlight. And he’s a noticeably better player than he was at the beginning of pre-season. Apparently, he completely beat himself up over the missed goal. I always tend to compare him with Sacha Kljestan. During his first year with Chivas (I know, out comes my bias) if I remember correctly, he ended his rookie season with a whopping grand total of zero goals.
