Will He or Won’t He?
By: Ian | November 24th, 2008The talk around the town is that Ronnie O’Brien has been left unprotected on the expansion draft list released today. Speculation is that Yallop may be gambling that Seattle will not pick O’Brien due to his aversion to turf, his high salary, and his history of knee injuries. They also signed Ljungberg, who plays the same position. However, this doesn’t stop Seattle from picking O’Brien and using him as trade bait with a team who can use O’Brien’s services, or even forcing us to trade with them to get him back. Here’s one Quakes fan who is praying that Yallop knows what he is doing, and that Ronnie will be in the black and blue again next season.Â
Here’s the rest of the list:
Arce, Miguel
Ayres, Jay Michael
Cunliffe, John
Denton, Eric
Ghebru, Michael
Glinton, Gavin
Grabavoy, Ned
Gray, Kelly
Gustavson, Michael
Hatzke, Matt
O’Brien, Ronnie
Riley, James
Roberts, Jamil
Smarte, Adam
Somma, Davide

My guess would be that O’Brien’s safe, for all the reasons you mention. But you never know. (This is me wearing my Seattle fan hat.)
Also, what can you tell us about Jovan Kirovski? (This is me wearing my LA Galaxy fan hat.)
This seasons is going to be so confusing.

Hmm, what can I say about Kirovski? In short, he is a useless waste of a jersey. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. He bounced around Europe for the first half of his career, and was even a part of the Dortmund squad that won the Champions league in the mid-90’s, though he only played here and there. That was probably the high point of his career. Eventually he came to the MLS, first with the Galaxy, then Colorado, then us, then back to L.A. He’s never really found his stride. He has some height and strength, but never seems to make the right runs, doesn’t have much vision, and gets lost in games too easily. He can play either attacking mid or forward. Don’t expect too much from him, but he can provide some depth off the bench.
