Feilhaber says: Derby still in talks with MLS. San Jose’s roster not complete. Hey Doyle, make it happen.
By: Melissa | February 5th, 2008Is there anything else to add to this post? The title really says it all. Our boy Benny is in Houston this week to maybe play in tomorrow’s Mexico friendly. In an interview with the NY Times’ Goal blog, he comes straight to the point and says he just wants to play for a club that gives him regular time.
“There have been talks, there still are some talks with M.L.S.,” he said. “I need to be in a situation where I’m playing consistently and I haven’t had that situation since Hamburg. I’m looking for a situation where I’m playing, I don’t want to say that won’t be with Derby. But it looks like the team is going down, not for sure, and its already planning for next season. Maybe it would be better for me next year.”
“I’m always open-minded, but the main thing is playing time. I think right now, that I’m not playing, it might be better to take one step back to then take two steps forward by going to league where I can play now. Yes, it would be a step back from the Prem, but it would also be a way to get back in to getting regular time.”
Perhaps if Derby goes down, the club really will be more open to giving Feilhaber his shot. But looking at San Jose’s current midfield situation, I’d say its probably 110% likely he’d get a starting spot with us and keep it. Also, after reading the Goal article, I sense Benny is pretty bummed out about how things recently turned out for him and a little bit of that Yallop positivity may be the key to kick him out of his funk and back to happy goal scoring, relentless high five-ing, and spontaneous declarations of love for Nick Carter and the Backstreet Boys*.
* I didn’t make that last part up. He did it on one of the Sacha & Benny podcasts.

Besides being great for San Jose, this would hopefully get the Feilhaber train back on the tracks. I am just amazed that he hasn’t been able to crack the lineup at woeful Derby County. It’s not like they have an amazing center mid pairing.
